Pella Lutheran Church of Clinton, Wisconsin began as a congregation in 1901. The first church was outside of town; the second church, built in 1930, was in Clinton. Pella was part of the UDELC/UELC. The church was closed in 2006 when the Pella congregation merged with other Lutherans and moved into Beloit. This box contains a scrapbook of photographs, articles and clippings about Pella Lutheran from the early days until 2000. The binder was assembled by Mrs. Dorothy (Hofstrom) Petersen, a Clinton native and the wife of Rev. Sigurd Petersen who served Pella from 1929-1933. She intended the book to be of use to new pastors wanting to learn about the church. Packet 1 contains articles and other papers concerning the history of Pella. It also contains the Pastoral Acts of Rev. Sigurd Petersen during his time at Pella. Packet 2 contains various newspaper clippings including some that deal with the close of the church. Packet 3 holds photographs: church exteriors, Rev. Niels Bentsen and family (Pella 1906-1913), Confirmation class 1931, and the Sunday School 1931. Almost all the items donated were from the Rev. Sigurd and Dorothy (Hofstrom) Petersen family through their daughter Delores (Petersen) Jorgensen. Dorothy was a granddaughter of Thor Thompson, one of the original organizers of the Pella congregation. See also DAAL collection SPE-998. 20210204. Petersen, Sigurd Damskov Rev 1904-1981.
