Claus Laurits Clausen (1820-1892) was a pioneer Danish pastor who worked primarily among Norwegian immigrants. He founded St. Ansgar, Iowa in 1853 as a mainly Norwegian settlement. He was also prominent in his later life for encouraging Danish Lutheran pastors to immigrate and work among Danish settlers. He was the first president of The Conference for the Norwegian-Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (1870-1890). The author, H.
