When he was a child, his family immigrated to the United States. He was a graduate of the Cleveland Art Institute (1932), St. Olaf College, Drake College and Trinity Seminary. He was the pastor of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Iowa (1945-1955) while also head of the Art Department at Dana College. He retired from Dana College after 33 years of service. He married Orpa Andersen in 1939. They had 2 sons, Paul and John. This box contains family memorabilia. This includes a small Danish flag, Orpa Thomsen's hymnbook (Concordia) which has her maiden name embossed on it as well as 5 other books, glass slides of Dana College, and a postcard set from Whispering Pines (Waupaca, Wis.). It also has her cookbook with some of her handwritten recipes in it and an autograph book from 1897 with the name Botilde on the first page.
